What is Labia Minoraplasty?
Labia Minoraplasty is an aesthetic type of vaginal surgery designed to reshape inner/small lips in the outer genital area. Extra tissue outside the outer lips (labia major) in labia minor (inner/small lips) may cause discomfort
What are the causes of shape changes in labia minor?
Labia minor (small lips) in one of three women are longer than the average. The biggest factor in this physical abnormality is genetic causes. Estrogen hormone also causes the changes of the labia. Therefore, pregnancy and hormonal imbalances may expand labial tissues.
Other causes include aging, weight loss and injuries.
Reasons for labia minoraplasty
Labia minoraplasty is an aesthetic procedure to correct the asymmetry of the inner lips, to adjust its shape and to reduce its size.
Large, exceeding the outer lips or asymmetrical labia minora (inner/small lips) can be uncomfortable when wearing tight clothing (tights, swimwear, bikini, etc.). The external genital area in the asymmetric or disliked image may reduce the self-confidence of women during sexual intercourse.
In addition, long labia minora may be irritated by friction during sexual intercourse or exercise and cause discomfort.
In some cases (infection, trauma wound healing, etc.), large lips may stick with small lips, and surgical correction may be necessary for this situation.
Labia minoraplasty operation
Labia minoraplasty is performed under local anesthesia but if desired, general anesthesia is another option.
In this surgical procedure, excess tissue is removed and internal lips are reshaped. Your labia will look more symmetrical and smaller after the surgical procedure.
The width and location of the incision depend on the shape, texture and size of your labia minora. Your doctor will determine the appropriate operation technique for you.
Always talk to your doctor about your complaint and wishes.
After the operation
Rest for 3-4 days after the procedure and apply cold to the treatment area.
Use your recommended pain relief and antibiotics.
You can return to desk work after 4-7 days.
Wait six to eight weeks for normal physical activity, including sexual intercourse
After surgery, scar tissue may develop as the incision area improves. Do not use tampons during menstruation period as it may harm the healing process.
Risks and Complications
As with any surgical procedure, there may be bleeding and infection after minoraplasty.
There may be a pain when urinating.
Generally, there is no long-term sensitivity or loss of sensation. However, there may be some lethargy or pain in the procedure area following surgery for several weeks.
If you have any complaints, please inform your doctor.
