What is Rhinoplasty (Nose Job)?
It is an operation in which the shape of the nose is changed according to the pre-planned procedures accompanied by anesthesia. Rhinoplasty can change the size, shape or proportions of your nose. It may be done to repair deformities from an injury, correct a birth defect or improve some breathing difficulties.Problems leading to breathing difficulties such as septum deviation and concha hypertrophy may accompany.
Before the operation
It is important that you talk to your plastic surgeon about your expectations and possible outcomes. When planning rhinoplasty, your surgeon will consider your other facial features, the skin on your nose and what you would like to change. If you are a candidate for surgery, your surgeon will develop a customized plan for you.
Medications containing aspirin or ibuprofen (Advil, Motrin IB, others) must be stopped for two weeks before and after surgery as they have the risk of increasing bleeding time. Take only the medications approved or prescribed by your surgeon.
Smoking is also a risk factor. It slows the healing process after surgery and may increase the risk of infections
About the operation
The operation time is approximately 1.5 - 2.5 hours according to the details of the procedures to be performed.
At the end of the operation, a simple bumper with a small tube is inserted into the nose, which allows breathing. At the end of the nose surgery, a thin band and plastic mold are placed on the nose. After one night hospitalization, you may go home. 3-10 days later, the buffer and the plaster are removed.
After the operation
To reduce the risk of bleeding and swelling, your doctor may ask that you follow these precautions for several weeks after surgery:
• Avoid extreme activities such as aerobics and jogging.
• Take baths instead of showers while you have bandages on your nose.
• Don't blow your nose.
• Take care of your diet to avoid constipation. Constipation can cause you to strain, putting pressure on the surgery site.
• Avoid wearing clothes such as shirts or sweaters, over your head. Clothes that fasten in the front will be a better option.
To prevent pressure on your nose, avoid resting eyeglasses or sunglasses on your nose for at least four weeks after the surgery.
Avoid direct sun exposure as the sun may cause permanent irregular discoloration in the skin of your nose.
When will the result occur?
The nose becomes edematous, red in the first place. Bruises may be accompanied by eye circles. Depending on the person, there will be an improvement in 3-15 days. It may take up to 1 year for the final shape of the nose to form.
Are there risks?
All surgeries have risks. Fortunately, the risks for rhinoplasty are small and complications are rare. Your doctor will talk to you about the risks and benefits of surgery in detail before the operation.
